Thirty-three Laois pubs have closed in the last 13 years, but numbers of pubs have increased within that time

Thirty-three Laois pubs have closed their doors in the 13 years.

This is according to a new survey from Drinks Industry Ireland.

However the survey also revealed that Laois is one of only three counties outside of Dublin where the amount of pubs has increased in the past two years.

Almost 20 percent of rural pubs have closed in the last thirteen years, compared to just one percent of pubs in Dublin.

In 2005, Laois had 157 pubs. This number went down to 124 in 2018.

The O’Moore county has faired the best out of the number of pubs closing in recent years in the Midlands.

Westmeath saw 47 pubs within 13 years, while Offaly had 37 pubs close within that time.

Over 1,500 pubs have closed their doors across the country in the last 13 years.
