Laois 1-9 Galway 0-6
The Rock veteran John McDonald, who recently kindly sponsored gear for the Laois Masters football team, was the goal hero for the O’Moore men in today’s All Ireland shield semi final against Galway.
This score put daylight between the sides and came 15 minutes into the second half. Laois led from start to finish with early points from Chris Conway (3) Derek O’Connell, Mark Rooney and Paul Dunne and went into the break leading by 0-6 to 0-2.
In the second half against a strong wind at the Athlone venue manager Tomàs Brett used his bench wisely and in particular the roll on roll off sub system in place for the Masters game, this system saw each sub getting crucial game time to keep everyone fresh.
The second half goal from Mc Donald and fine scores from Darren Finlay, Rory O’Connell and Conway ensured that the O Moore Masters March on to the Sheild final against Longford/Leitrim scheduled for the 21st of September next as a curtain raiser to the Masters championship final between Donegal and Dublin.
In the first year of competing in this revamped competition Laois have done themselves proud and some silverware would be a great way to finish the season off.
