Rosenallis secure quarter-final spot after victory over Slieve Bloom

Rosenallis are through to a Senior ‘A’ quarter-final after a hard fought victory over Slieve Bloom in Mountmellick this evening.

Slieve Bloom will now contest the relegation final in two weeks time against Clonaslee.

Rosenallis started the game with the best possible start as Donnagh Callally set up Brian Fitzpatrick to bury the ball into the net.

Both teams were trying to find their feet in the game and Slieve Bloom got their first score after 13 minutes. Ciaran Conroy pointing a free.

Good running by Fiachra C Fennell allowed Paddy Keating to point a good score.

Ben Shore came on after three minutes and was having a stormer in corner back and his good work set up Fergal Burke to split the posts.

Paddy Keating scored two frees while Conroy replied with a free. Robbie Burke then scored a peach of a point from the right as Slieve Bloom looked to get going in the game.

Fitzpatrick pointed a free before Rosenallis got in for their second goal.

Cillian Callally assisted Donnagh Callally to fire beyond Gavin Conroy in the Slieve Bloom goal.

Jack Conroy pointed a wonderful score before Darragh Delaney replied for Slieve Bloom.

Donnagh Callally got the last score of the half with a point from play.

Slieve Bloom needed to win this game to have any chance of avoiding a relegation final and they started the second-half with a 65’ from Conroy.

Conroy pointed again from a free before Darragh Delaney split the posts for Slieve Bloom.

Conroy pointed yet another free before Rosenallis hit three without reply.

Donnagh Callally and Joe Keating pointed before Fitzpatrick slotted over a free.

Down by seven, Slieve Bloom rallied again and substitute Ross Holmes buried a 21-yard free to breath life back into Slieve Bloom.

Conroy pointed from play to make it a three-point game. Goalkeeper Stephen Kelly pointed a free with Conroy replying with a free.

Joe Keating got his second point after coming on as Rosenallis were controlling the game well.

Conroy and Fitzpatrick trader points at the end and it was to be Rosenallis the victors by four points.

A quarter-final awaits Rosenallis while for Slieve Bloom it’s a relegation final against Clonaslee in two weeks time.
