St Paul’s ladies football club are certainly getting used to this winning feeling.
Another of the new clubs in the county – based in Emo – they won the junior title in 2018 and then the intermediate this year to ensure they’ll be playing at the top level in 2020.
They secured the intermediate title thanks to a thrilling final win over Ballyroan in O’Moore Park on Saturday afternoon on a scoreline of 8-6 to 5-9.
Captain Shannon Costello got two goals for St Paul’s with Emma Lawlor chipping in with 1-4, this county final win adding to the All Ireland schools title she won with Scoil Chriost Ri earlier this year.
Aoibhinn Maher, Emma Murphy, Gillian Keenan, Isabella O’Coole and Ciara Crowley all got a goal each for St Paul’s too.
For Ballyroan, who only won the junior a couple of years, back it was a disappointing end to their season – but they really played their part in a cracking final and will surely be back in the mix in this grade again in 2020.
Kate Whelan had the unwanted distinction of scoring 3-5 and ending up on the losing team while Emily and Eimear McWey and Rachel Fitzgerald were also on the scoresheet.
Like many club successes, this was a real family affair for the St Paul’s girls with sisters, cousins, aunts and nieces all playing alongside each other with even more family links among the management team.
There was great scenes of celebrations after the game and our photographer Julie Anne Miller was on hand to capture some brilliant images.
