Big week for Barrowhouse as they get set to mark centenary in style

Eric Donovan

It’s a big week for the Barrowhouse GAA club as they host an event for Laois Connects week on Thursday night and then celebrate their centenary on Saturday when GAA President John Horan will visit the club to officially open their new grounds.

‘Redemption – an evening with boxer Eric Donovan’ is on the club on Thursday night at 7.30pm.

Donovan, who is from nearby Athy, claimed the Irish featherweight title in April this year.

He has previously spoken publically about acting out during his school years and his battle with mental health issues.

His determination to his life around and his subsequent success is an inspiring story.

Eric now reaches out to the wider community to share the lessons he has learned along the way.

The event gets underway at 7.30pm and is presented by Steven Miller from LaoisToday.

Then, on Saturday, all attention turns to the official opening of the club’s new grounds.

GAA President John Horan will be on hand to cut the ribbon from 2pm when a day of activities is planned.
