There’s nothing like county final season to bring the best out in local communities.

When that county final is against one of your nearest and dearest rivals then things go up another level again.

And so it was when we visited Borris-in-Ossory and Killadooley national schools this week ahead of Borris-Kilcotton’s Laois SHC final this Sunday against neighbours Rathdowney-Errill.

“What do you want us do for you,” is the general response when we ask the schools can we visit.

“Plenty of colour and noise,” is our standard response. Well these two schools certainly delivered in style.

It was wall to wall green and red in both schools with art class certainly put to good use to make good luck signs.

As always, there was huge excitement – and even a slight infiltration as a handful of kids in Rathdowney-Errill jerseys proudly wore their colours.

But the last word went to a young child in Killadooley who had his prediction ready for us. “Borris-Kilcotton to win 23 points to 2-16,” he confidently told us. “Ross King can get the goals but PJ Scully will score more points!”

Come Sunday afternoon, they’ll be hoping he’s right!

The game throws in at 4pm in O’Moore Park and you can check out a selection of photos as captured by our photographer Julie Anne Miller.
