Bonus for Portlaoise rugby as they claim second successive league win

Portlaoise 34 Wexford Wanderers 11
Rugby – Leinster League Division 2A

Despite trailing at half time, Portlaoise came back to record a bonus point win over visitors Wexford in the Division 2A of the Leinster League in Togher today.

Wexford took the lead after eight minutes with an unconverted try but ten minutes later, Mark Sherlock put Portlaoise on the scoreboard with his try.

With both teams playing to their strengths, the first half proved to be the beginning of a tough game.

Shane Reilly, captain Robin Foot, and try scorer Sherlock all played well in the first half but Wexford added two penalties, with one in response for Portlaoise, to lead 11-8 at the break.

But Portlaoise turned it around in the second half with tries from Paddy Coss, Harry Lalor and Niall Keenan as well as points from the tee from Jack Reddin and Niall Keenan.

Ross Cooper had an outstanding game and Paudie Burke the same. Darragh McAuley and Jack Reddin both had a strong second half today.

Ross Cooper took home the man of the match today for his game in the 5 try bonus point game.

The result sees Portlaoise up to fourth in the table ahead of an away game against third-placed North Kildare next week.

PORTLAOISE: John Scully; Jamie Holohan, Simon Williams, Niall Keenan, Ian Corrigan; Darragh McCauley, Jack Reddin; Paddy Coss, Harry Lalor, Brian Flannery; Shane Reilly, Padraig Bourke; Ross Cooper, Mark Sherlock, Robin Foot
