Second Laois pub receives award and heads on to National Final

The Irish Pub Awards National Final takes place tomorrow and two Laois establishments are in the running.

The Fishermans Inn in Fisherstown, just between Ballybrittas and Vicarstown, won in the East Region.

They were named the victors in the Best Outdoor Space category and were also nominated in the Tourist Bar of the Year section where they lost out to Mickey Finn’s Pub in Wicklow.

The Fishermans Inn is run by Sean Ward and is certainly one of Laois’s hidden gems.

Kavanaghs pub in Portlaoise also won ‘Best Live Music Venue’ prize for the Eastern Region.

The Portlaoise pub had many live bands preforming throughout the year including Jason’s Guitar school, people from Music Generation Laois and the Laois School of Music and also Colm-Kavanagh’s Headbangers Nights!

The pub also won awards in 2018, taking home the title Innovative Pub of the Year.

The two Laois pubs will line up with 61 Regional Winners will now go on to battle it out at the National Gala Ceremony which will take place on November 20.

The winners have been showcased as best in class in their region and will receive a prize package to the value of €20,000 comprising of management training and media coverage to help them develop their business.

The event takes place in the RDS Concert Hall, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge on Wednesday.
