Talented Portarlington swimmer shortlisted for RTÉ Young Sportsperson of the Year tonight

Best of luck Nicole!

Portarlington swimmer, Nicole Turner has been shortlisted for RTÉ’s Young Sports Person of the Year.

The awards will be live tonight (Saturday) at 9.20pm on RTÉ One and is a familiar scene for Nicole who was also shortlisted in 2018.

It is no surprise that the swimmer is in the mix as her track record is very impressive.

The 17-year-old  decided to take a year out of school to focus on her training and is determined to come home with an Olympic medal around her neck.

Nicole trains seven times a week – two hour sessions, three gym sessions a week and a physio session once a week.

In September, Nicole claimed a bronze in the 50-metre butterfly S6 at the World Para Swimming Championships in London.

Turner also finished seventh in the Women’s 100-metre Breaststroke SB6 final.

In May 2017, she received a civic reception in Laois County Council for her glowing contribution to paralympic and Laois swimming. 2017 also saw her receive the title of ‘Para Swimmer of the Year.’

Turner won a gold medal in the 50-metre Butterfly Youth final in the World Para Swimming Series in Berlin in June.

Last year, the Portarlington teenager earned herself a silver medal in the women’s 50 metre butterfly in the European Para Swimming Championships in Dublin.

She is going from strength to strength and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
