Laois hurling team named for league clash against Clare

The Laois senior hurling team to play Clare in Sunday’s Allianz League Division 1 game in Ennis shows three changes from the side beaten by Dublin two weeks ago.

Portlaoise’s Frank Flanagan comes in to start at full-back for what will be his first league start while Colt’s James Keyes is named at corner-forward for what will also be his first league game to start.

Colm Stapleton from Borris-Kilcotton is named in midfield in what is his first start of the season.

Liam Senior, Jack Kelly and Aaron Dunphy are those to miss out.

Laois have lost their first two games of the league and, after a one-week break, are now facing into three leagues games in quick succession.

After Sunday’s clash away to Brian Lohan’s Clare side they are at home to Carlow on Saturday next before finishing the regular league series at home to Kilkenny the following Sunday.

The Carlow game will be crucial in Laois’s bid to avoid relegation as the loser will almost certainly finish bottom and face a relegation decider against Westmeath on the weekend of March 7/8.

Sunday’s game against Clare in Cusack Park in Ennis throws in at 2pm. It is being shown on TG4 with deferred coverage at 4pm.

The Laois team in full is: Enda Rowland; Diarmuid Conway, Frank Flanagan, Donnacha Hartnett; Podge Delaney, Ryan Mullaney, Ciaran McEvoy; Fiachra C Fennell, Colm Stapleton; Willie Dunphy, James Ryan, Paddy Purcell; Stephen Bergin, Ross King, James Keyes.
