LISTEN: Young Laois woman records stunning rendition of ‘The Parting Glass’

This is absolutely stunning.

A young Laois woman has recorded her own version of a classic song.

Mags Oxley from Timahoe put up her recording online, which she made in her home, yesterday and it received a hugely positive reaction.

Mags, who is the daughter of well-known physiotherapist Brian and St Colman’s school teacher Breda, recorded the song.

The 20-year-old’s timing is apt as Hozier’s take on ‘The Parting Glass’ on the Late Late Show certainly lifted the nations spirits on Friday night.

‘The Parting Glass’ is a Scottish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends.

It was purportedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

Mags has plans for further recordings during this period of isolation and she intends to perform ‘Grace’ next.
