Sopranos set to wow at ninth weekly Laois parish online lunchtime concert

The Rathdowney church online concert has increased in popularity since it began nine weeks ago – and it is back once again today.

This week’s concert, which begins at 1pm, will have a classical flavour with Abbeyleix ensemble led by Soprano Veronica Dunne.

Veronica will be joined by her niece and Soprano, Stacey Dunne with John Hosey on keyboard and violinist Dino Hriczko.

As all masses in the country have had to go behind closed doors due to Covid-19, parishioners will be used to tuning in to mass on the webcam by now.

But now, using the same webcam, you are able to watch a mini concert once a week – with Parish Priest Fr Martin Delaney recently revealing that more than 800 people are tuning in each week.

He said: “The weekly concerts have an audience of 800 people and growing. The concert is at 1pm each Tuesday at www.rathdowneyparish.ie and when you log on, just follow to the webcam.

“Next week we will have The Cullinane Family from Galmoy and they will be followed on subsequent Tuesdays by Nora Fogarty from Johnstown, Fr. Bobby Fletcher and friends and Michael Creagh from Rathdowney.”

Rathdowney can now also record their concerts so that anyone who misses a performance, can watch it back later.
