The GAA action continues apace in MW Hire O’Moore Park this afternoon with a double header of sorts in the Laois Shopping Centre Premier IHC.
With crowds limited to 200 (including players and officials) at outdoor gatherings, today’s games in Portlaoise are being treated as two separate fixtures with enough time being left between them for people to leave the first game and the others to come in for the second.
Clonaslee, under the management of club man and Laois’s all time leading scorer James Young, take on Mountrath in the first of the two Premier IHC games at 1pm.
Laois’s newest club Colt-Shanahoe meet Slieve Bloom in the second game at 3.30pm.
Clonaslee were actually relegated from this grade last year when they were beaten by Slieve Bloom but were granted a reprieve when Colt and Shanahoe came together to form a new club. No relegation was needed in order to keep eight teams in this grade and so Clonaslee were saved.
Mountrath were beaten heavily at the quarter-final stage last year by eventual champions Rosenallis.
Colt-Shanahoe are a complete unknown package but Colt were always competitive at this grade and Shanahoe have been in the last two quarter-finals. Still, the absence of Chris Murray and Leigh Bergin will be keenly felt.
Slieve Bloom have Ben Conroy back on board after he spent last year playing in London so should be improved on 2019 so a close contest is to be expected.
Gavin Cooper will be reporting on the two games from O’Moore Park and you can follow his updates in our Live Blog below.
