There have been two more deaths from Coronavirus as well as 767 new cases, according to figures released today.
Of today’s cases, 18 of them are in Laois, meaning the county’s 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 people drops to 201.9, from 204.5 yesterday.
It is the third day in a row that the Laois figure has declined. It had peaked at 256.21 on October 27 following a steady rise over the previous month. The rate is now at its lowest point in Laois since October 20.
The national average is now 248.
Of today’s cases, 321 are in Dublin, 84 in Cork, 47 in Meath, 34 in Limerick, 24 in Roscommon and the remaining 257 are spread across all other counties.
There are now 322 in hospital with 44 of these in ICU. There have been 16 new admissions in the last 24 hours.
In total, there have been 103 confirmed or probably deaths from Covid in October of which 39 were in residential homes. In comparison 36 people died from Covid in September and 5 in August.

Excess Deaths revealed
The Central Statistics Office says that excess deaths for the period March to September is estimated at between 876 and 1,192.
The calculation assumes that, in the absence of Covid-19 deaths, mortality would have followed a similar trajectory to previous years.
This is based on an analysis of RIP.ie death notices over the period since the pandemic began here.
The CSO said that the number of death notices observed for September stands at 2,353, which it similar to the same period last year.
It said this contrasted with “the pronounced increase in death notices placed in April” when the number of death notices rose from 2,861 in March to 3,502.
The CSO said that death notices show an increase in mentions of “home” as the place of death, rising from 16.1 % in October 2019 to 25.8% in September this year.
