Laois athlete awarded huge college scholarship in America

Laois teenager Ava O’Connor has been awarded a huge college scholarship in America.

The Emo native, who runs for Tullamore Harriers, has been granted a scholarship by Adams State in Colorado.

She will link up with the American college’s track and field and cross country teams.

Ava has enjoyed a sparkling career to date – shining on the national and international stage.

She represented Ireland at the European Youth Olympics in Azerbaijan last summer.

She also claimed double gold in 800m and 1,500m at the National Indoor Championships in January in the Junior and U-23 categories.

Ava is currently studying her Leaving Cert in Scoil Chriost Ri and the school paid tribute to her for her achievement.

They said: “Congratulations to 6th year Ava O’ Connor who has earned a scholarship to Adams State University in Colorado.

“Ava’s accomplishments on the track representing her country and her club Tullamore Harriers have been outstanding.

“Well done Ava!”
