Laois student receives Excellence Scholarship Award for outstanding Leaving Cert results

NUI Galway hosted a special virtual Scholarship Ceremony recently for recipients of their scholarships for new undergraduate entrants 2020.

And among the winners was Laois student Thomás Dunne.

Ballyfin-Portlaoise native Dunne, who attended Portlaoise CBS, received 7 H1s in his Leaving Certificate – the maximum possible score.

Thomás since began studying Medicine at NUI Galway in September.

He won one of the college’s Excellence Scholarship Awards 2020 on the basis of his excellent Leaving Certificate results.

The ceremony was carried out virtually this year – conducted over Facebook.

Thomás’ former school, Portlaoise CBS, will receive a plaque in January to honour his achievement.

Teacher Caroline Brennan said: “The staff and management at St Mary’s CBS are thrilled for Thomás and his family.

“We wish him the best in his future studies.”
