Laois Gardai detain one person following €270,000 drugs seizure

Gardai in Laois have made a drugs seizure of €270,000.

As part of their ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour in Laois, they searched a property in Mountrath today.

This resulted in a huge number of cannabis plants being seized around 8am this morning.

These are believed to have a street value of more than a quarter of a million Euro.

Gardai say that one person is currently detained following the incident.

They say: “As part of our ongoing commitment in working with communities in Laois and Offaly to tackle anti social behaviour our colleagues carried out a search of a property in Mountrath, County Laois.

“This resulted in the recovery of a large number of Cannabis plants with a potential street value of €270,000.

“A male in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Portlaoise Garda station.

“Investigations ongoing.”
