In Pictures: Laois town receives glorious new clock following huge community effort

The people of Mountmellick received their brand new clock at the end of July.

Following a huge community effort, the town hall clock was installed on July 28.

Laois Heritage explained how the project came to fruition and thanked all of those who helped get it over the line.

They said: “It was a proud day for Mountmellick as the Town Hall Clock was installed – thanks to the hard work and determination of Nina Horan.

“The project to install the clock – made specially by Stokes Clocks in Cork – was overseen by Conservation Architect Richard McLoughlin.

“It was funded through Laois County Council in cooperation with Mountmellick Tidy Towns.

“Electrical work was provided for free by local electrician Rob Molloy.

“Conservation work has been undertaken at the Town Hall in recent years by Fr Micheal Murphy PP and the Parish of Mountmellick, with funding from the Built Heritage Investment Scheme, and the installation of the clock is the icing on the cake!

“Well done to the building owners, the crafts people, to Nina and all involved, and thanks to Cathy Bishop for sharing these wonderful images.

“This project shows what can be achieved when a small amount of funding invested sparks a huge enthusiasm and commitment to a site by the local community.”
