The school community in Scoil Bhríde, Mountrath were in celebratory mode recently as they received their Active School Flag.

This was a huge achievement for all involved and a testament to the work and commitment of the Active Flag Coordinator in the school – Ms Gemma Brereton and the Active Schools Commitee.

The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise them to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.

“We are so proud of all the children and their families for their interest and enthusiasm in helping us achieve our Active Flag status, as it really is a community effort,” said Ms Brereton.“We embrace the importance of physical activity on the overall health and wellbeing of children and the development of them as holistic individuals,” said principal Ms Mary Rohan.

Ms Rohan also thanked the Board of Management of the school for funding the construction of an Active Walkway around the perimeter of the back of the school.

This is a wonderful feature which the children are very much enjoying.

Members from Laois Sports Partnership were also in attendance as the flag was raised and the walkway was officially opened. What a fantastic achievement for Scoil Bhríde, Mountrath!
