The current crop of Portarlington footballers will take a special place in the club’s history as the first back-to-back winners since 1954-55.
Incidentally, on that occasion they also won the two championships in the same year.
And while their breakthrough win in the 2020 final over Graiguecullen back in August was significant and their first since 2001, this one was arguably even more special.
For a start it was the proper county final experience. Unlike August when there was only 200 in attendance, this time there was probably more than 3,000 in the stand.
They were allowed use the dressing rooms, they marched behind the band. There was no scrambling for tickets.
And it was Portlaoise they were up against. The kingpins of Laois football with 35 Laois championship titles, seven Leinsters and an All Ireland to their name.
When you win a game like that, scoring four goals and having 15 points to spare, you deserve to enjoy your day in the sun.
For the second time in 13 weeks, Keith Bracken lifted the Jack Delaney Cup. This time they had hundreds of supporters and family members to enjoy the experience with them.
