Gardai appeal for information following series of burglaries in Laois

Gardai are appealing for information following a series of burglaries which took place in Laois this week.

Four properties were broken into in Stradbally, Borris-In-Ossory and Portlaoise in the early part of the week.

In Stradbally, a house in the Ballycoolan area was broken into sometime overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

While two properties were hit in Borris-In-Ossory. The first is located on the Rock Road area and that was broken into around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The second property was broken into in the Shanboe area overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

In all three of these, the properties were ransacked and damaged but no valuables were taken.

However, a burglary also took place in the Clonkeen area of Portlaoise on Tuesday between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

In this incident, a substantial amount of money in coins was taken by the raiders.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to businesses who are approached by anyone looking to change a large amount of coins to contact Portlaoise Garda Station.

“Similarly, anyone who may have information about any of these incidents is urged to contact Portlaois Garda Station.”

Also this week, a ‘substantial amount of damage’ was done to a Laois church following an overnight break-in.

St Abban’s Church in Killeen was the victim of the crime on the night of Tuesday December 7.
