Memorial charity cricket match set to take place in Stradbally this weekend

Richard Monk Cricket match

The curtain will come down on the cricket season in Laois this weekend as a memorial charity match will be played.

This will be the final game played in Stradbally in 2022 until the season resumes in April of next year.

The Richard Monk Memorial Charity Cricket Match is set to take place on Sunday September 25 at The Abbey in Stradbally and all proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society.

The match is organised by Laois 2nd Xi Captain Daniel Monk, in memory of former team scorer and his late father Richard, who sadly passed in February this year.

An avid sportsman and fan of both cricket and football among many other sports, this September allows the family and past and present members of Laois Cricket Club to remember Richard whilst playing a sport he loved to play, watch, and spend many a weekend scoring for Laois teams.

Proceedings will get underway from 12pm with a BBQ and drinks available from 2pm.

Daniel said: “Our match is in memory of my late Dad, Richard, who sadly passed in February this year.

“The hole left in our lives by our loss is irreplaceable.

“An avid sportsman and fan of both Cricket and Football among many other sports, this Sunday 25th September allows us to remember Dad whilst playing a sport he and I both loved and got to share together.

“We appreciate any and all donations as all funds will help the Irish Cancer Society and provide services to families in much need during a very difficult time in life.”
