Gardaí

Gardai in Laois have made separate arrests following incidents of attempted robbery and assault in the county recently.

The first arrest related to an incident that occurred in Portlaoise last Sunday.

At approximately 1.20am on Sunday October 23, a male (aged in his 40s) was walking on Coote Street when he was approached by a group of four people and assaulted.

The male was seriously injured during the incident and was treated for his injuries, which are understood to be non-life threatening, in St. James’ Hospital, Dublin.

Gardai have since revealed that they made an arrest.

They say: “A male was arrested on Saturday morning, October 29, in respect of a serious assault last Sunday night.

“He has now been charged with the offence.”

Meanwhile, Gardai also unveiled details of an attempted robbery that took place on a delivery driver in Portlaoise.

They said: “Portlaoise Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery in Portlaoise last Thursday night of a delivery driver.

“As a result of these investigations a male was arrested Friday evening.

“This male has been charged with attempted robbery, and two separate burglary offences in Portarlington.

“He will be making an appearance in Court.”
