Portlaoise CBS seniors progress to Griffith College legal debating competition final

Portlaoise CBS seniors have progressed to the finals of the Griffith College Legal Debating Schools Competition in Dublin.

The Portlaoise secondary school were one of the eight teams in the country chosen to take part in the competition.

This will take place on March 24 and preparations for it are in full swing.

Team captain Luke Walsh submitted a 1,000 word essay on behalf of the team.

This essay was on the title ‘This House believes that being vegan is worse for the environment’.

The team is completed by Nathan Duffy, William Barrett and Jack Murrell while Adam Raji and Darragh Walker are subs.

They have been working under the guidance of teachers Ms Niamh Hyland and Ms Deirdre Carroll.

The teams that reach the final will be informed before lunch on March 24.

The final two teams will have one hour to prepare their debate, the motion will be on the topic of ‘Global Warming’.​
