Gardai launch appeal for information following ‘incident of indecent exposure’ in Laois

Gardai in Laois are appealing for information following an incident of alleged incident exposure at the weekend.

The incident is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Lyster Square area of Portlaoise.

Exposure/Offensive Conduct is as defined under provisions of Section 45 Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017.

It is defined as ‘offensive conduct of a sexual nature’ which means any behaviour of a sexual nature which, having regard to all the circumstances, is likely to cause fear, distress or alarm to any person who is, or might reasonably be expected to be, aware of any such behaviour.

A spokesperson for the Gardai say: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an alleged incident of exposure/ offensive conduct, involving a white male.

“This occurred at approximately 1am in the Lyster Square area of Portlaoise, in the early hours of Sunday, March 12.

“Gardaí are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Lyster Square or Main Street areas of Portlaoise between the hours of 00:30 and 1:30am.

“And who has any information about this incident, or any person who has video footage during that time period.

“Anyone with information should contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
