Singers, dancers, artists, poets and comedians wanted as Electric Youth returns to the Electric Picnic

Youth Work Ireland Laois, in association with Electric Picnic and Laois Offaly Education and Training Board, have announced the return of the Electric Youth Music and Arts initiative.

Electric Picnic has a very special relationship with the people of Laois and in particular has always had a keen interest in fostering the creativity of young people in the county.

Since being established in 2018, the Electric Youth Music and Arts initiatives have brought huge excitement and a unique opportunity to the talented young people of Laois.

The Electric Youth competition not only offers a chance to perform at such a prestigious level, but also gives young people the experience of a lifetime taking part in the excitement and build up that goes along with the legendary Electric Picnic.

Applications are open to people from ages 14 to 24 years old. Application forms can be accessed by emailing ey@ywilaois.com.

Selection heats will take place on August 15 and 16, in the Youth Cafe at Youth Work Ireland Laois in Portlaoise.

Heat winners will be picked to go forward to the Grand Final which will take place on August 18.

The winners of the Electric Youth competition will take to the Hazelwood Stage at Electric Picnic 2023 to perform in a range of genres, showcasing the very best of Laois’s young and emerging talent!

Regional Director of Youth Work Ireland Laois Clive Davis said:

“Since being established in 2018, the Electric Youth Music and Arts initiatives have been widely anticipated annually by the young people of County Laois.

“We are delighted to have the support of Electric Picnic, Laois Offaly Education Training Board and Local Creative Youth Partners once again this year.

“The young people who took part in Electric Youth in previous years have been thrilled by the excitement and buzz generated by the programme, and as an organisation we are very grateful indeed for the support of all the team at Electric Picnic.”

Programme Co-Ordinator of Electric Youth Elaine Boyle said:

“We are hugely excited to be working with Electric Picnic again on this wonderful initiative, which gives our young people an amazing and unique opportunity.

“We are hugely appreciative to all the team that enables this engagement annually, which has gone from strength to strength, and has caught the imagination of our young people.”
