Sadness at death of well-known local car dealer Joe Mallon

Joe Mallon RIP

The death has occurred of Joe Mallon, the Kildare native who had strong business interests in Portlaoise through the Renault and Dacia car dealerships.

Mr Mallon passed away suddenly last week.

The Mallon name has been synonymous with the car trade since Joe started in the industry in the 1960s. Joe Mallon Motors opened in Naas in 1986 and took over the Bill Cullen Renault dealership in Portlaoise in 2011.

Across the Portlaoise and Naas showrooms, the business employed over 50 people and was a strong family business where three of Joe’s children – Anthony, Philip and Eithne – all worked in managerial roles.

The business has long been a generous supporter of local sports clubs, schools and charities across Kildare, Laois and even Wicklow.

They are strongly associated with Kildare GAA, where they are the main senior football championship sponsors, while they have also provided cars or vans to both Laois and Wicklow GAA.

They have also been to the forefront with brand ambassadors, with LaoisToday among their brand ambassadors in this region.

In Kildare, their business name has adorned the front of the family’s local GAA club, Cappagh, for a long number of years.

Joe will be sadly missed by his loving partner Patricia, children Ethna, Anthony, Noel, Gemma and Philip and their mother Beatrice.

He will also be missed by his devoted grandchildren Abbie, Ben, Leah, Jack, Ann, James, Lucy, Ciara, Harry, Beatrice and Alice, sons and daughters in law Donnachadh, Richard, Rachel and Eimear.

Patricia’s children Sabrina, Alan, Emma, Nicola, Bernard & Georgina and Patricia’s grandchildren. Joe will also be sadly missed and remembered by his relatives, his colleagues in Joe Mallon Motors & his many neighbours & wide circle of friends.

Reposing at his residence (W91W90H) on Wednesday from 3pm, with prayers at 8pm. Removal from his residence (W91W90H) on Thursday at 11.30am to arrive at The Church of the Nativity, Newtown for 12 noon funeral mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
