Laois brothers yearning for return to normal live gigs in 2021

Hugh and Ciaran Finn

The Finns from Rathdowney in Laois are yearning for the return of live music in 2021.

Hugh and Ciaran, who perform together, have seen their industry completely evaporate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The duo were actually about to embark on a tour of America when the virus began to spread and they just about made it home.

They have spent the last nine months recording online streams from their apartment once a week – but, speaking on the LaoisToday Midweek Podcast, the lads outline how that is simply not the same.

They told host Paul Downey how performing at Electric Picnic in 2019 gave them such an incredible buzz – that they are simply longing for that again.

They said: “We always said the live streaming is good for reaching out to people across the world but you are confined to this little lens.

“You are playing to a mic and every now and then you try to pretend you are playing to a crowd because the song would come across better then.

“But you can’t beat the live gigs. Getting on the stage is the best feeling ever and even if you make one person happy, it is miles better.

“So we hope that when gigs do come back, they are the same as they were in 2019.

“No temperature checks, wristbands – just back to normality. That is our dream.”

The Midweek Podcast will be available to listen to on all platforms later today.
