Here at LaoisToday we’ve complied a list of all the hottest events around the county this weekend.

FRIDAY, JULY 28
  • A 1,000 origami crane challenge takes place in various venues across Laois on Friday and Saturday to raise money for Cuisle. It will take place at the Dunamaise Arts Centre, the Methodist Church Community, the Kyle Shopping Centre and Laois Shopping Centre.
  • There is a fashion extravaganza taking place at the Manor Hotel in Abbeyleix from Friday to Sunday. There will be guest experts on the night as well as fashion available to buy.
  • Abbeyleix Heritage House are launching their WW1 exhibition at 7.30pm which will run until the end of September.
SATURDAY, JULY 29
  • The Ard Eireann festival celebrating the Slieve Bloom Mountains is on Saturday and Sunday in the Slieve Blooms.
  • Mountmellick Youth Development Centre are holding a Family Fun Day with bouncy castles, arts & crafts, food and raffles from 2pm to 5pm.
  • There’s a car boot sale at Heritage House Abbeyleix on Saturday July 29 from 12 to 4pm.
  • Mountmellick Macra is having a summer bash at Mountmellick Macra hall.
  • There’s a double header of Laois SFC action in O’Moore Park on Saturday evening. Portlaoise play Arles-Kilcruise at 6pm while Portarlington meet Arles-Killeen at 7.30pm. A link to all the GAA fixtures for the week can be found here.
Durrow Scarecrow Festival
SUNDAY, JULY 30
  • The Durrow Scarecrow Festival begins on Sunday and runs until August 7.
  • The Junior parkrun is on in Vicarstown on Sunday at 11.00am
  • Portlaoise’s annual Garden Fete on from 2pm to 5pm
  • There’s more action in the SFC at O’Moore Park as Ballylinan play Mountmellick Gaels at 12 noon. Clonaslee St Manmans Gaels take on St Joseph’s at 1.30pm. Graiguecullen and Killeshin play at 5.30pm and Stradbally v The Heath meet at 7pm.
