Fr Paddy: We should be so grateful for the blessings we do have

The grass isn't always greener on the other side - be grateful for what you have

Sometimes life can seem challenging and we usually get the well-known feeling of “the grass on the other side is always greener”!

We all feel frustrated with the challenges that life throws at us at some point of time or the other.

The best thing to do at that point of time is to close our eyes and start counting of all the blessings in life that God has given us.

If we think very deeply, our life is full of blessings that we hardly recognize being so immersed in our busy lives. Listening to the chirping of birds early in the morning, we realize that there are many people who spend their life in a world that is silent while many others spend their lives in a world that is dark and may have never seen a rainbow or the setting sun.

When you go out for a drive, scroll down the window and look at the poor beggar standing under the hot sun, begging for filling his hungry stomach. We get three meals a day without realizing its importance. Isn’t that a blessing?

Whenever you are sad, look at the eyes of your parents and family which is filled with love and concern for you. There are many people who have never experienced the love of a family. Isn’t that a blessing?

Our lives are full of “blessings in disguise”, all we have to do is discover them.

Life is all about helping others. The key to a happy, contented life is found in the happiness of others. When we love people without any expectations and help them, our heart is filled with an immense sense of happiness and peace seeing the contented smile on their face and gratefulness in their eyes.

As Mother Teresa once said, “We don’t need to do great things. We need to do small things with great love”.

The key to a happy life is when we consider others problems to be our own and try to help them. There’s always a sweet side of everyone, which just needs to be explored!

According to me,the best definition which can be given to life is:

L – Live

I – It to the

F – Fullest

E – Extent

So the next time whenever life knocks you down, close your eyes and… start counting!

Prayer of Gratitude to God

Father, dear Father,

I am so grateful for everything that you have given me.
Thank you so much for the loved ones in my life,
For the many ways in which I am cared for and supported.
Thank you for the many ways I can serve and give to others.
Thank you for the rich tapestry of colours in creation,
For the beauty which is all around me,
For the skies and the ever changing cloud formations,
For the breathtaking sunsets and early morning mists.
My heart is so grateful and brimming with thanks.
I could write a thousand books about your great goodness,
And still have many stories to tell.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I thank you with everything I am.
All my being cries thank you Lord!
