Property Watch: Five sites for sale in Laois that would make an ideal location for a new home

On this week’s Property Watch we are going to take a different approach. Instead of selecting five homes, we will be identifying five sites that hold great potential to be turned into a home.

Some of these sites are planning approved, while others are subject to planning. Some also have structures already present, and others have just a plain-field site. Each site is a minimum of a half acre. There is no budget.

Knockanina, Mountrath, Co. Laois

This 1.1 acre site for sale in Mountrath had qualified for planning previously, with no restrictions attached. That planning has since expired but it would expected that planning could be gained again. The Mountrath area is one that is growing, and the town itself has all the essential amenities with a modern secondary school that ranks amongst the best in Laois. Only 10 minutes away from Portlaoise and the M7 motorway is also very close by.

Ballyroan Road, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois

This is the only site on the list that is located within a town setting, and it currently is subject to planning. The site contains 0.8 acres and there is houses built either side of the site. Abbeyleix is one of the most heritage-rich towns in Ireland, and it wins numerous awards each year. It again contains all the necessary amenities, and it is less that 10 minutes from Portlaoise and the M7 motorway.

Keelogue, Killeshin, Co. Laois

This 1.5 acre site is located on the side of the scenic hills of Killeshin, and this particular property has an amazing view over the area of Carlow town, as well as a number of counties including Laois, Kildare, Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford. There is currently a 1890s built dwelling already on this site, but there is further scope for an additional property within its own setting subject to planning permission.

Guide Price: €159,000

Barnashrone, Portlaoise, Co. Laois

This 1.32 acre site is being sold subject to planning permission. The site enjoys mature natural boundaries and offers a rare opportunity to build a quality family home in a private, convenient and attractive setting. Local needs requirement of 10 kilometres applies making this site ideal for many people currently living in Portlaoise, Ballyfin, Mountmellick.

Emo Court, Emo, Co. Laois

This site is situated in the heart of Emo village and is within walking distance of the modern Emo National School, Emo GAA as well as the Emo Court grounds. There is no local need attached to this site, and it is subject to planning. Emo is located just 10 minutes from Portlaoise and less than five minutes to the M7 motorway, providing a great location for anyone commuting.
