Ratheniska and Ballyroan might not be two areas you would associate with camogie, but these girls certainly knew how to rattle the back of the net today.

The scores came rolling in as Ratheniska started off the scoring with a point in the first minute. They then landed a goal from captain Aoibheann Szwaglis and followed up with points from Byrne and Shannon Fitzpatrick.

Faye McEvoy put Ballyroan on the scoreboard with a goal in the fifth minute, and Orla Looney joined the list of Ratheniska forwards to rattle the back of the net with her attempt in the seventh minute.

Louise Doyle’s point was met by a goal and a point from Ratheniska’s Byrne. Ballyroan’s Tara McDonald scored the first of her two goals to leave score Ratheniska 4-4 Ballyroan 2-1.

Byrne continues her scoring run

Tara Byrne continued her scoring by blasting two goals into the back of the Ballyroan net in the first two minutes of the second half.

Fitzpatrick added a point of her own for Ratheniska which was followed by two points from Ballyroan captain Emma Carney.

Captain Szwaglis followed up with a point before Faye McEvoy completed her handpass into the net.

At the other end of the field, Fitzpatrick added a seventh goal for Ratheniska but Faye kept battling for her team, and managed to run through the defence to handpass another ball into the Ratheniska goal.

Fitzpatrick finished with Ratheniska’s final goal and Ballyroan began to put some last-minute pressure on their opponents. A 65′ from Ballyroan’s Louise Doyle saw them get a fifth goal, and Tara McDonald landed a sixth in the net for the side.
