2018 Remembered – In Pictures: No Leinster glory but Laois supporters in big numbers in Croke Park

We love a good celebration here at Laois Today and Laois’ 2018 season had much to celebrate.

The Laois fans were out in force in Croke Park for Leinster Final day and made the most of the big day out.

See you all back there in 2019!

It was always a big ask for the Laois footballers to beat Dublin in today’s Leinster final.

But that didn’t stop the county’s supporters showing up in large numbers to Croke Park.

On what was Laois’s third trip to Jones Road this year and second outing of the summers, the blue and white clad fans went by bus, train and car with many more of the Laois ex-pats in Dublin making a day out of it too.

After wins over Wexford, Westmeath and Carlow, Dublin proved a step up.

They got off to a great start with a goal from Ciaran Kilkenny after just three minutes and a free from Dean Rock moments later. Laois rallied well to be level midway through the half but Dublin enjoyed the bulk of the possession and at half time led 1-8 to 0-5.

Laois battled on manfully in the second half but Dublin always had enough in hand.

For Laois the season isn’t over yet. They have a Round 4 Qualifier in two weeks and if they win that then they’ll have three games in the Super 8s.

So while today didn’t yield victory, there could still be plenty more big days out in 2018.

Our photographer Julie Anne Miller captured a selection of great images of supporters before the game.
