Roinn 2 Girls Shield Final

The Heath edged an 18 goal thriller against Ballyroan to claim the Division 2 Girls Shield in O’Moore Park this afternoon.

Forward Elle Beere was The Heath’s hero as her tally of 3-5, including a last minute point, was the difference in the end.

Ballyroan really played their part in what was a thrilling game with Laoise Dunne scoring seven goals but still coming out on the losing side.

The game started even enough with the sides deadlocked after seven minutes.

Myah Walker struck for a goal and a point for The Heath with Hayleigh Tierney responding with a great point before Laoise Dunne grabbed her first goal for Ballyroan.

The Heath took over after that though as goals from Walker, Ella Beere and two from Fiona Carroll pushed them well clear as we approached the second quarter of the game.

But Ballyroan battled back dramatically with Laoise Dunne taking her first half goal tally to four while Hayleigh Tierney leveled the game with her first goal to make it 5-2 apiece.

But Fiona Carroll’s late point gave The Heath a 5-3 to 5-2 advantage at half time.

Ballyroan re-took the lead on the resumption of play through Lauren Mulhall who scored a great foal but Ella Beere instantly levelled the game with a point for The Heath.

Laoise Dunne rattled in her fifth goal but Myrah Walker replied with her second goal to regain parity once more with 12 minutes to go.

Laoise Dunne’s double hat-trick goal swung the tie back Ballyroan’s way as we entered the final quarter.

An Ella Beere free left the score at 8-2 to 6-5 and the same player then rattled the net with five minutes to go to give The Heath a one point lead.

Beere was completely dominating now and her free pushed The Heath further ahead before Fiona Carroll’s hat-trick goal put The Heath four points clear with minutes to play.

Laoise Dunne’s seventh goal cut the deficit to two and then right on the struck of full time, Lauren Mulhall’s strike levelled it.

But the stage was set for someone to be a hero and Ella Beere was that player as her late point brought glory to The Heath.
