In Pictures: Motivational speaker Gerry Duffy addresses Laois Local Enterprise Office presentation night

Motivational speaker Gerry Duffy was the special guest at the Laois Local Enterprise Office  presentation of certificates in the Midlands Park Hotel on Thursday night.

The Mullingar man, who famously ran 32 marathons in 32 counties in 32 days and later did a Deca iron distance triathlon over 10 days, is now a professional speaker in the areas of leadership, motivation, high value teams and goal setting.

Addressing a large group of local business people, he highlighted five things that he considers hugely important to success.

  • Be in control
  • Be focused
  • Be fit
  • Be uncomfortable
  • Be positive

The importance of being organise and being physically fit were two points he spoke strongly on while he also said that businesses were like flowers “they either grow or die”.

There was also a panel discussion involving Gerry and local business owners – Dr Diane Cooper, owner of True Fitness and a national finalist in Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition this year, and John Duff, owner of Portlaoise Springs.

The discussion was presented by Ronan Berry from Midlands 103.

After the discussion, the presentation of certificates took place where anyone who took part in a Local Enterprise Office training course in 2019.

Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council Willie Aird made the presentations while Evelyn Reddin, Head of Enterprise in the Laois Local Enterprise Office, was also in attendance along with her colleagues Seamus Doran and Seon O’Dwyer.
