Meet your Candidates: Their pet hates and favourite TV shows

The clock is ticking. General Election 2020 is now just eight days away.

And here at LaoisToday, we have surveyed all of the 26 candidates who are running in Laois-Offaly and Kildare South.

We asked candidates a total of 13 questions and 16 of them responded in full.

Some of the questions were serious, others were a bit more light-hearted.

We will be publishing their responses every evening between now and the election itself on February 8.

Yesterday we published their opinions on social media while on Wednesday we asked them about their ideal dinner guests and favourite film and on Tuesday they responded to the query as to what was the biggest issue in their constituency.

Today we take a more light-hearted approach again as we ask them their pet hates and favourite TV shows.

Untidiness, rudeness and a lack of punctuality are among the things that irk the candidates; the Late Late Show, Young Offenders and Ireland’s Fittest Families feature in the favourite TV programmes.

You can check out their answers below.

Those who did not respond are listed below too:

LAOIS-OFFALY

Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy (Fine Gael)

Pet hate? Dangerous drivers.

Favourite TV programme? Gardener’s World.

John Daly (The National Party)

Pet Hate?: Hypocrites

Favourite Programme: I don’t watch TV.

Charlie Flanagan (Fine Gael)

Pet hate? Leaving doors open.

Favourite TV programme? The Late Late Show.

Pauline Flanagan (Fianna Fáil)

Pet hate? A wasted journey. This bothers me philosophically and practically. From a philosophical point of view, I believe that every moment should be enjoyed – forget about the destination – just enjoy the journey. Practically – bring your empty cup to the kitchen when you leave the room – don’t waste the journey!

Favourite TV programme? No time to watch telly anymore. But I never miss the news or the Late Late Show. I know, I’m sad.

Sean Fleming (Fianna Fail)

Pet hate? Untidiness.

Favourite TV programme? NCIS and on Netflix: Designated Survivor.

Pippa Hackett (Green Party)

Pet hate? Bad manners.

Favourite TV programme? Gardeners World. I could do with Monty Don to come and fix my garden at the moment!

Noel O’Rourke (Renua)

Pet hate? Don’t hate pets!!

Favourite TV programme? Six One News.

Brian Stanley (Sinn Féin)

Pet hate? People who turn up late.

Favourite TV programme? I don’t get to watch a lot of TV.

Linda Hayden (Social Democrats)

Pet hate? Rudeness, life is hard, you don’t know what anybody is going through, so please always try to be kind.

Favourite TV programme? I love The Young Offenders and Derry Girls and think it’s a real example of some of the brilliant comedic writing we have in this country. We have a wit like no other.

Martin Heydon (Fine Gael)

Pet hate? Being stuck in traffic.

Favourite TV programme? Ireland’s Fittest Families.

Pet hate? People playing loud music on the train. Seriously people headphones exist and I don’t want to listen to Kanye at 7am on the train to work.

Favourite TV programme? Netflix’s BoJack Horseman.

Fiona McLoughlin-Healy (Independent)

Pet hate? It really annoys me when people are able to say with conviction one thing in public and do exactly the opposite in private. It’s one of the reasons I campaigned for almost 5 years for the webcasting of council meetings!
