Sunflower power charity event to be held in Laois this weekend for two great causes in

The sun will be shining on The Heath this weekend – no matter the weather.

On August 21 and 22, from 11am to 5pm, whatever the weather, a charity fundraising event at the The Heath House (R32 VH28) will take place.

An army of tall Sunflowers have been carefully grown in a field nearby and they will provide people with an opportunity to support two local charities

Through a ‘Pick Your Own Sunflowers Event’, the Local Parish Services Centre and Laois and Offaly Families for Autism will receive all of the funds that are raised.

While there is no entry fee, those who attend are asked to make a donation.

It has been suggested that €5 be given for five sunflowers – but people can give more if they wish.

A spokesperson said: “Bring your own scissors or secateurs and wear good footwear.

“The acre of organic sunflowers, sustainably grown, are a variety particularly good for feeding birds due to their high oil content.

“The bees love them too. You can keep the seed heads to recycle as bird feeders for your garden birds.

“All donations go to support the activities of both charities and no booking is required.”
