Death occurs of Sheila Heydon-Hughes, mother of local TD and Minister

The death has occurred of Sheila Heydon-Hughes, mother of local Kildare South TD and Junior Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon.

Minister Heydon, who has been a Fine Gael TD since 2011, serves the constituency of Kildare South an area that also includes Portarlington, Killenard and Ballybrittas.

Mrs Heydon-Hughes (nee Fennin) was originally from Castlemitchell just across the Laois border between Stradbally and Athy.

The family lived at Calverstown Little, near Narraghmore, and are closely associated with the St Laurence’s GAA club.

Sheila passed away peacefully at home on Sunday. Beloved wife of the late Martin Heydon and Denis Hughes, she is deeply regretted by her loving children Rosemary, Annette and Martin Heydon, son-in-law Marcelo, daughter-in-law Brianne and Rosemary’s fiancé Martin.

She is also deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren Liam, Molly, Marc, Martin D, Padraic, John and Julie, her brother Michael Fennin, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

She is reposing at her home today (Tuesday) from 2pm with rosary at 8pm.

Removal by Doyle’s Funeral Directors on Wednesday morning to the Church of SS Mary and Laurence Crookstown arriving for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. House private on Wednesday morning please. Donations if desired to the Friends of St Brigid’s Hospice, the Curragh.
