SOLAS Eco Garden Centre – Farmers’ Market and Bicycle Repair Workshop

This weekend will see a great mix of activities at SOLAS from our farmers market, training courses and continuing upgrading to our facilities to get ready for the busy spring season.

Farmers’ Market

This Saturday, February 12, from 10am-2pm will see the largest farmers’ market of the year with 22 stalls being present of the day including:

  • ‘Sushi Mania’ are back for real this weekend with their hugely popular range
  • ‘Making Scents’ will be exhibiting their 30+ range of Hand Poured Wax Melts for the first time @ SOLAS this weekend
  • ‘Stinky and Scorchy’ are back with their range of garlic and chilli inspired products and will hopefully be a regular feature of SOLAS for the year ahead
  • Quality and choice are to the fore with:
    • Fresh organic vegetable from ‘The Red Shed’ farm and also ‘Farmer J’
    • Fresh bread from Crean’s bakery and Mueller and O’Connell Bakery
    • Quality meat from Quarrymount Fresh range meats and Fiorbhia Farm
  • Also Fresh fish, Thai food, Local artist Mary Butler, Cakes from Eimear, Treats from Christal

Basic Bicycle Maintenance Workshop

At 12 Noon this Saturday (February 12) SOLAS is hosting a Basic Bike Maintenance (Repair Workshop) which will be run by local expert bicycle mechanic Kieron Hoey of Right Bike Cycles.

This one-hour course is an excellent way to learn and practice the basics of bicycle repair & maintenance including:

  • Adjusting saddle height & proper leg positioning
  • Checking wheel nuts are tight
  • How to know what size of wheel a bike has
  • How to pump up a tyre & find punctures in an inner tube
  • Checking & adjusting brakes
  • oiling chains & how to put a chain back on

Ongoing works and upcoming courses

SOLAS continue to upgrade their facilities and hope to have all works completed by Friday, February 25, 2022 including:

  • Upgrading of the Car Park
  • Creation of a new 80ft long Eco Art mural
  • Completion of final works on our newly installed Retractable Roof

Gardening for Kids

SOLAS are running a 2 day ‘Kids Growing in the Garden Workshop’ filled with fun & learning, all about growing plants & vegetables in the garden
