Sadness in Mountrath Golf Club as popular lady captain passes away

Carol Sinnott was lady captain of Mountrath Golf Club at the time of her passing

There is sadness in Mountrath Golf Club and the local community in Ballybrophy near Borris-in-Ossory following the death of Carol Sinnott following a short illness.

Carol was the current Lady Captain in Mountrath Golf Club and a very active and popular member.

Originally from Inchicore in Dublin, she lived in Ballybrophy. She passed away in Milford Hospice in Limerick.

A very good golfer, she had been involved in Mountrath Golf Club for a number of years and was also an active member of Borris-in-Ossory ICA.

She led the way with the captain’s drive-in in Mountrath earlier this year but her captain’s prize which was due to be held in July was called off because of her ill health.

As a mark of respect, Mountrath Golf Club will be closed all day this Friday, August 3, and the men’s captain’s prize scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

Carol (nee Bennett) is survived by her husband Donal, daughters Laura and Edel, son Colm, brother Gordan, sister Von, son-in-law Ed, grandchildren Killian and Jamie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

She is pre-deceased by her son Brian and brothers Percy and Paul.

Carol is reposing in her home this Thursday evening from 6pm with rosary in the house at 9pm.

Removal this Friday morning August 3 at 10am to the Church of the Assumption, Killasmeestia for Funeral Mass at 10.30am with burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
