Sadness at death of highly-respected Raef Scott, a former teacher in Ballyfin College

There is widespread sadness at the sudden death of Raef Scott from Ballyfin, a highly-regarded former teacher in Ballyfin College.

Late of Brindle Lodge, Esker, Ballyfin, Mr Scott passed away on Saturday surrounded by his loving family in the wonderful care of the Beaumount Hospital emergency staff.

He is remembered by his many past pupils as a truly excellent maths teacher who was kind and welcoming to the students who came into his classroom.

Raef is survived by his loving wife Bernie and his daughters Joanne and Clare.

The family are well known and respected in their local community. His wife Bernie is a very talented artist while his daughter Joanne is a vet and Claire is a reporter with the Irish Mail on Sunday and was honoured last year as NewsBrands Ireland Young Journalist of the Year.

He will be deeply missed by his son-in-law Michael, brothers and sisters Michael, Tommy, David, Maura, Kathryn and Brigid.

Predeceased by his parents Tom and Brideen and brother Richard. Lovingly remembered by aunts, uncle, cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters and brothers in-law and extended family. Sadly missed by his neighbours, students and friends.

Due to the current government guidelines regarding public gatherings, a private funeral will take place in the coming days for immediate family only.
