Your guide to what’s on in Laois at the weekend

The GAA might be finishing up in Laois for the winter but there’s still plenty happening around the county in music, quizzes and a concert or two.


Golf Outing 

Stradbally GAA club are holding their annual golf outing at Castle Barna Golf Club today.

Quizzes galore 

There are two quizzes in the county tonight.

The first is in Portarlington Golf Club at 8.30pm. Hot food will be provided on the night.

Mountrath Snooker Club are holding their quiz in ‘The Pub’, Mountrath at 9.00pm.

CPR Training 

The Order of Malta are holding free CPR awareness training in Portlaoise Parish Centre at 6.45pm.


Crystal Swing in Rathdowney

Crystal Swing will be in Rathdowney community centre from 8.30pm. Admission is €10.

Craft Fair

There is a craft fair at Aghnacon community centre at 11am.

‘Rock of Ages’

Portlaoise Musical Society are showing the ‘Rock of Ages’ at the Dunamaise Theatre until November 25 at 8pm nightly.

Santa Claus is coming to town

Christmas is coming and Santa Claus is arriving in the Laois Shopping Centre at 2pm on Saturday.

County final finale

There are no less than four county finals down for decision on Saturday – minor camogie, U-21 hurling and U-21 ‘A’ and ‘B’ football. You can see all of the fixture details here. 

Ray Houghton in Portlaoise

The man who put the ball in the English net (and the Italian net) will be a guest of the recently-formed Laois branch of the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club. He’ll be in Hume’s Pub in Portlaoise. The event is in aid of the Cuisle Centre and kicks off at 9pm.


Slieve Bloom Walking Club

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club are travelling the 6km ‘Lost Village Loop’. Assembly is from the Ridge of Capard Car Park at 11pm. For more information, contact Gerry Hanlon on 086 8210056.

Monster Auction

Killeshin GAA are holding their Monster Auction from 2pm. Sure to be a great event for auction lovers.

Soccer action
