Laois Integration Network appealed for help and assistance as a number of Ukrainian refugees began their second week in tented accommodation in Stradbally.

Around 25 people initially moved onto the site of Electric Picnic and more have arrived as the days have gone on.

Independent Councillor Aisling Moran, who attended a meeting in Stradbally last week, brought the matter up at the end of the Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal Meeting.

A local councillor has called on Laois County Council to carry out a feasibility study on the possibility of a Greenway from Abbeyleix Railway Station to Kilkenny City.

Cllr Ollie Clooney was speaking at the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District meeting last week.

A popular Laois gift shop has announced that it will close its doors for this final time this Saturday – September 9.

Breda’s Gift Shop in Mountmellick, which also has a store in Kilkenny, has traded for the last nine years.

A meeting of the Joint Policing Committee has heard a frightening account of some of the happenings in Portlaoise in recent weeks.

Sinn Fein Councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley outlined how vicious attacks and someone running around in broad daylight carrying a machete have been reported to her.

9 – Established Laois business set to close its doors today after almost 50 years of trading

Long-established Portlaoise business The Office Centre is set to close its retail shop on Main Street in the town today.

The decision brings to an end an association with Portlaoise that stretches back 49 years to 1974 when its first shop was opened by Jimmy Finn in the town.

10 – Record investment in confirmed for Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise

The latest figures show Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise now has a record high of 900 whole-time equivalent staff working in the hospital.

There are now 103 doctors, 26 consultants, and 360 nurse in the facilityl.
